Why you didn't use it, You can do 3D in flash with just Drag and Drop models on the stage. There is AS 3 API but you don't must to use it for a simple 3D staff.
I never really used that but it's good to know that it's easier than papervision3d
No, That FreeSpin3D (www.freeSpin3D.com), It's much easer than Papervision3d or Away3D.
You don't need to know ActionScript to use it.

Do You mean that the cube in the FLA don't see the Texture?
To see the texture you need the FreeSpin3D Component panel.
