Playtime

The ball is the physics part of this. I understand, not that special. The cool part is that the ball's y-coordinate is used as an action trigger. (in this case, if you "throw" the ball, the dog starts running around! Yay! Hehe. This was a banner concept I did for my company that never got used. . .so this way, it gets used! Enjoy.

Hehe - it is much harder to infer meaning in written text than in conversation. We are in need of a sarc mark in the modern written word - indeed, a whole slew of emoticon-like marks to infer meaning! No forgiveness is needed, it was just a misunderstanding. Thanks for the clarification though. Cheers!

Hey i didn't mean that it was stolen........... it is nice interactivity... We all do the same as u told.. my suggestion to you is to implement this code for nice game like...such as count the click and push clicks number to a text box and let user count the clicks.. isn't it nice.... any way u have possitive mind.. if heart u i beg your appologies..........

Please read my disclosure above, ganesh. I never claimed the code was completely original - indeed, I actually claimed that it was "not that special". In truth, this piece isn't my favorite for many reasons, I just shared because I thought it was an interesting concept (interacting with a "dog") that I hadn't seen before. I honestly don't recall if/where I found some of my code, but it is generally my practice when I don't know how to do something to look for available information, ala tutorials or wikis. So while I can say with absolute certainty that I didn't steal any code via a decompiler, which I consider completely unethical because the author does not give consent, I may have used a tutorial like the one on Kirupa, where information is provided voluntarily - just like here on ffiles. Cheers.

Well...I think this is a perfect example despite the criticism I'm seeing. This definitely is not crap, and the whole point of this site like Josh mentioned is not about jaw dropping designs that utilize flash so that people can just take it and upload to their server...BUT, the point of this site is to get users to experiment with action script code.

Keep up the great work Josh!

Cheers,
Rob

Yeah, Karo joins a month ago, posts no files, and goes around crashing people's ratings (his average rating is two and a half stars folks, which I assume is five stars - not sure there...). I guess by his standards I measure a little higher, because he gave me six stars. So "Really Crap" must be better than "Really Stinky Crap" or some such nonsense. Seriously folks, you get what you get and you don't throw a fit, as I tell my 5-year-old. She gets it Karo. Do you?

Hey Karo.. I don't see you have something better, actually, you don't have any... Could you do better than this? I would like to see it.
It's nice.. nothing great but a good starting point.

@ Karo: care to expand upon that. Constructive criticism helps me get better. Dropping random bits of garbage just makes me think you're uninformed (and that you have a crappy computer). Let me explain:

There are some things about this file that are not polished. I understand that - as I say in the paragraph above, it's a CONCEPT. I'm not giving you a complete and usable banner for you to download and immediately re-upload. I'm giving you some fun stuff to do with as you may.

Here are the things I know are unpolished in the file:
It is pretty processor-heavy. The main reason is that since it was a concept, I didn't optimize any of the bitmaps for web because it was a concept. This is easily fixed by replacing library items.

The code is a bit scattered. This is because there are several distinct elements that need to interact, but if they did so on the same timeline, they would counteract each other. (ie the code for creating button actions on the ball is different from the code for the actual bounce physics.) If you know flash well enough, you can find what you need to tweak.

There are several other small things I notice - for example, the shadow doesn't diminish it's alpha value as it moves away from the ball. Again, easily fixed in about 5 minutes. If you have constructive criticism, I'd LOVE to hear it - I might even be willing to fix your complaints. But if all you have is directionless disapproval, then you might as well cancel your membership here and go code in the dark by yourself. This is a community for helping people - get on board!
