but can how can I break the line any place I want

user pauljima
the listing author pauljima 14 years ago

It'd take some actionscript tweaking, but most of it is already there. It's just a matter of having the words start in a random location at the bottom instead of in order.

user FlyingS
FlyingS 14 years ago

hey

Anyways i can make the text start at the bottom (hidden) and move upwards when the green box is ticked?
Thanks for the file, very very cool

Thanks Pauljima! Figured the spacing out, i'm trying to make each letter fall into a container like a basket, maybe you could email me some suggestions? I'm going to try a few things! Thanks for your help and support, this is a great study :)

user pauljima
the listing author pauljima 14 years ago

Ah, good question. It's pretty simple. In the "tField" actions, line 12, you'll find:

var textArray:Array = textString.split(" ");

Just turn that into (get rid of the space):

var textArray:Array = textString.split("");

And that'll treat every CHARACTER rather than every WORD as a separate movieclip to collapse. After that, the only thing you need to worry about is adjusting the x-position of each letter to close up the letter spacing.

There are some other things to think about as well, as the line-breaks will have to be more customized in order to get it to work, but it's not too difficult to figure out.

user Justo
Justo 14 years ago

Thats great man! Curiosity, how could you make each letter fall instead? I created an array holding every letter in the alphabet it did a loop for the text split but it didnt work :x

user pauljima

Thanks. The text is being pulled from a variable... You could easily throw data pulled from a file into that variable instead...

@pauljima: when a listing is approved we send an email notification to users, that is why you got many comments at once :)
More details: when a listing is not very interesting we might approve it without sending emails to users, and that listing might not get so many hits.
When a single listing is approved it can take over 24 hours to notify all subscribers, that is why we have so many listings pending approval.
